I would count myself as a Sheffielder, born here, mostly lived here. I think I can speak for many other Sheffielders, as well as those who have moved to the city, as say that we had no love whatsoever for the markets area. What makes you think you are some kind of "proper Sheffielder", whatever that might be? Is it dependent on postcode?

The much loved area needed revigorating, badly. The few times I went to Castle Market were the few times I was confronted with the desolate starkness of Thatcher's legacy. Decrepit, run-down, smelly, full of vagrants and bored OAPs and not a single thing I would want to buy. About time we moved on, about ten years too late I'd say. 2 hours ago, Albert smith said: No daft lass , A proper Sheffield er know 's the difference between a fishcake and a ar---- rissole . Bemoaning someone for making personal insults and then going on to insult someone personally and with a sexist undertone. Charming.

By the way daft lad and daft lass are an old endearing term from North Yorkshire as I am sure that an expert in all things that are traditional in these parts would know. That should read "...an old endearing term from northern Yorkshire..." or an old endearing term from the North Riding of Yorkshire...". "North Yorkshire" is about as traditional as the Royal Hallamshire Hospital. Edited December 16, 2018 by Annie Bynnol
