《The news that Yorkshire’s council leaders are seeking a single deal for Yorkshire based around the creation of an elected mayor is, on the face of it, welcome news. This ‘coalition of the willing’ now includes Hull for the first time, as well as Barnsley and Doncaster after they pulled out of the separate Sheffield City Region agreement.》

Considering the high level of disconnect between our "political leaders" and the people they supposedly act on behalf of, I can't really see how this is likely to be a good idea.

If we can crack that problem (and we have the means if we have the mind to use them), then it should be an excellent idea.

I for one am not surprised by that as we have seen exactly how Sheffield would run the City region. A great example has been the HS2 fiasco. The "City Region" station is right in one corner of the region and the rest can go whistle. Just surprised Rotherham are still backing it.

The councils that have made the 1 August declaration are: Barnsley, Bradford, Calderdale, Craven, Doncaster, East Riding of Yorkshire, Hambleton, Harrogate, Hull, Kirklees, Leeds, North Yorkshire, Richmondshire, Ryedale, Scarborough, Selby and York.

It does not include Sheffield and Rotherham.

Judging by the Mayors some areas have ended up with, including neo-fascists in Donny, why would this appeal?

This isn't devolution, it's just an opportunity for the Government to shirk responsibility and point the finger elsewhere.
