Do you buy in to the news conspiracy theories?

Alan, you're just making yourself look really stupid.

As I said further back in the thread I'm not a fully convinced moon landings denier, nor am I fully convinced it did happen. I like to question. There are anomalies that need answers.

I'll concede I've dropped a bit of a clanger with the Apollo 16 astronauts on wires one, but I'm still waiting for someone to explain to me why NASA used that one slope for two supposedly separate locations, and how on earth NASA could possibly lose the original tapes and telemetry data for the Apollo 11 mission.

What would it take to convince you?

You don't understand what is missing. The SSTV footage was recorded onto telemetry tapes. You are confusing using a telemetry tape to record video with telemetry data. Remember they were only recording to telemetry tapes for backup in case the live feed, which was being recorded with higher quality equipment, failed, which it didn't.

NASA concluded they were taped over as was the routine and used for Landsat. That's not the same as being "lost."

The BBC reused loads of tapes over the years and hence episodes of Dad's Army, Hancock's Half Hour etc have been lost sadly.

I'm sure you'll agree that the moon landings, especially the first one, was a particularly momentous event and so its inexplicable that they were routinely taped over. And for the reasons I explained earlier it is vitally important that the original tapes, which contained all the unseen, un- broadcast footage exist because its the originals that would have been scrutinised by future historians, not CNN's archives. The fact that that can't happen now fuels theories that there was something that NASA didn't want the world to know in those original tapes.

Why is it inexplicable? I'm Kurt Cobain. I'm recording Nevermind in the studio using DAT. However, I'm paranoid the DAT will fail so I have the mixing desk also running to a Tascam 4 track. When I'm done I find, to my relief, the DAT has worked. The 4 track can go in the bin. It's lo-fi superfluous junk.

That's all that has happened.

I don't think you quite understand the differences in quality and why the recordings on telemetry tape were discarded. For completeness it's a shame they are gone but in the 1980's when NASA needed telemetry tapes for Landsat do you think they thought in 20 years time some oddballs would start saying the whole moon landing thing was a fake?

What makes you say it cant happen now? And do you think NASA still uses magnetic tape to record video?

The 4 track needn't have gone in the bin at all.

Come on, can you not see that the "loss" of the original tapes will cause people to be suspicious that there were things in them that NASA didn't want the world to see?

No, I agree, I could keep the 4 track. But why? I have the high quality master copy of THE EXACT SAME THING on DAT as well. How can you not understand what a recording of a live feed is??

If the moon landing was fake, why would they be recording low res backups onto telemetry tapes in the first place Alan? If it looked like something was going wrong in their fake set-up and it risked being exposed they would have just cut the live feed wouldn't they? Why risk tapes showing the ****-up being leaked? Have you even considered that for a second?

I can concede that it might make morons suspicious. That's about it.
