GOLDEN OLDIE
A young neighbour has just spent 6 hours in hospital giving birth to her second son. Six hours! In the 70s when I had my children you were lucky to get out in two weeks. And I understand you have to provide everything for the baby in hospital today. What stories does anyone have of maternity services in the 60s/70s?
scousemouse
I had my first baby in Nether Edge in 1967, and at that time you generally stayed in for a week. Visiting was very restricted, only two visitors in the afternoon, and husbands only in the evening. How things have changed, friend of mine had her baby at 9pm and was home at 2am!! Orangepip
I had my son in the mid 70's at Nether Edge. I signed myself out after 6 days, we were both well, no problems so no reason to stay. I don't remember much about it except babies were in a nursery until feeding time which was strictly 4 hourly, and lights out at ten
