ANGELFIRE1
Just ban the (beautiful) game. It's more trouble than it's worth. Angel1.
hauxwell
I was down Hillsborough at 1 o'clockish - usual intimidating behaviour by small minority of football 'fans' who like to give others a bad name. Two things that especially annoyed me - why did pubs open at 10am - asking for trouble! And poor police horses shouldn't be put through that aggro - at least police have a choice in the matter. Yes I know they're 'trained for it' etc etc but that doesn't make it right. A lot of police horses get injured during football matches. These troublemakers at the matches throw bottles and stones, which can cause injuries to the horses. If a policeman gets injured he can put in a compensation claim, the horse can't. You are right about the pubs opening so early, it is asking for trouble.
Fudbeer
I actually think having an early kick off can be counter productive as the troublemakers start drinking earlier so have more time to drink and cause trouble later in the day. Bilge
There was some 'hooha' at the bottom of London Road this afternoon. 40+ football fans sprawled out on the street and into the road. They were stopping cars from passing through and banging on them. I should imagine there'll be a few thick heads tomorrow! I drove through this crowd, there was only just enough room. They were challenging every driver asking who they supported and banging on the car waving glasses of lager. After I passed through (to go up Cemetery Rd) I noticed in my mirror that the road on that side was completely blocked with people.

And its a fantastic sport - the fact that a small amount of folk cause trouble doesn't mean you ban it for all. That would be daft.
geared
This isn't the first time United fans have been poorly behaved recently, there was fighting in the Middlesboro and Grimsby Town matches. I wonder if police are properly enforcing banning orders on known offenders?
InigoMontoya
A woman fainted at the back of one of the trams, so somebody pulled the emergency door release and the fans all got off the tram. The police then corralled them, before forcing them back onto the tram. They then held the tram again and the situation repeated itself. In the process the tram got damaged. . Priorities, eh, messrs Billings and Watson?
