chalga
The EU haven't actually done anything wrong,it's just the anti EU brigade need to score points as they haven't had a sniff of any for a long while, and Farages two faces need to speak,so while one of them has ignored his mate Viktor Orban ordering Hungarian border police violence against the human rights of asylum seekers there, his other speaks up against EU silence on Spanish police violence. Car Boot
I don't understand why people are criticising the EU over Catalonia. The EU have done nothing wrong regarding this subject. A top EU Commissioner describing the violence in Catalonia as "proportionate" is doing nothing wrong? A leader of the EU believing it is acceptable and "proportionate" to bludgeon elderly women (EU citizens, not asylum seekers) who are trying to vote? The jackboot is back in Spain, and the EU fully supports it.
WestTinsley
Imagine..if this were to happen in Scotland , Wales or even North of Ireland... Shame we don't break away from London/the South up here... apparently theyre saying Catalunya will be much better off independent...
Ridgewalk
What was the voting results and so called polls at the time or after the vote? Are you going to answer my question ? ---------- Post added 08-10-2017 at 19:27 ---------- Imagine..if this were to happen in Scotland , Wales or even North of Ireland... Shame we don't break away from London/the South up here... apparently theyre saying Catalunya will be much better off independent... Those scenarios are not equivalent. A similar matter would be London and the South East wanting to leave the rest of us. ---------- Post added 08-10-2017 at 19:33 ---------- Which countries don't have their own national identity, what is the national identity of the countries who haven't got one,and in what ways are they being stopped from getting one? Come on Chalga you can’t expect him to answer that, it’s much simpler to make grandstanding simplistic cliches “ we want our country back” “ we want our national identity” “ freedom” etc Edited October 8, 2017 by Ridgewalk Mistake

WestTinsley
Yes. Most of those pro unionists that were demonstrating are Franco-ists. Did you not see all the Franco salutes at some of their far right demo's. They have always been around albeit as a tiny minority.
cgksheff
Have you read the article? It has some valid points and it would be a mistake to generalise. Edited October 9, 2017 by cgksheff
Jeffrey Shaw
As they are denied a legal referendum how would we know? By looking at Spanish law. No, I've no idea.
melthebell
Well former Catalan leader Carles Puigdemont has been freed by a german court, they say Rebellion is no reason for extradition. But he may still face corruption charges. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-43659699
Calahonda
We will be over there in a couple of weeks time, the local population couldn’t give a carrot. When you live in a country where the mayor, the police, the lawyers, the estate agents and every civil servant is as bent as a bottle of crisps, who cares about Catalonia?
