Poor Theresa May

What a load of crap ! The conservatives are one of the most effective political parties in the world. do you really believe that anyone who votes for them isn't a decent person ? I don't like socialism I know many people who do And I would never say they aren't decent people. They just have a different view there are decent people on all sides.

They are far from that. They are ideologically blinkered, destructive, nepotistic risk takers, with a primary focus on their party and a small subset of the population they pretend to be interested in.

Anyone who wants an overall view of the Conservative party ideology would do well to watch last week's 'Victoria' (repeated Sunday 5.0pm ITV) about the Irish potato famine. Over a million people starved to death and 2 million more emigrated to America. The Tories wouldn't help even though we were the richest country on earth at the time, and it was happening in their own back yard.

I was struck by how little the Tories, (and their arguments) have changed over the years.

But I digress...

My argument is not everyone who are Tory members or those who vote for them are not decent that also goes for those who are members of any leftist group we just have different views.

I don't support Labour, but yes they are of course just as bad in their own ways.

The average age of Tory party members is 71

The other parties - generally speaking - and the party I support have a much younger membership.

It's not just an ideologically gulf that is widening, there is a massive generational disconnect as well.

Oh dear, getting pretty desperate aren't you Anna, citing events from hundreds of years ago.

The government in London initially decided to do nothing. The logic behind such a decision was that Ireland had suffered from potato famines before and would have the necessary knowledge on how best to get by in this case.

However, by 1846 it was plain that this was no ‘ordinary’ famine. Sir Robert Peel, despite opposition from the Treasury, imported £100,000 worth of corn.

The Tories have always been, and will always be, the nasty party. It's their destiny.

When we finally wake up to the endless "good cop, bad cop" routine, and realise it's just bent 'cops' on either side, we may make some political progress beyond the well-rehearsed "yah-boo" stuff tinfoil mentioned above, that is the staple of political discourse everywhere.

Until we speak the brutal truth about parties then we won't progress. There's no point calling the Tories anything other than what they are. Same for the others.

You're absolute right. Politics is a social construct which is downwind of religion.

In politics we create sacred values, we rally around those values and encourage others to join in. Anyone who challenges our values is considered a threat to the in-group which we must challenge (fight).

Sound familiar?

One of the most beautiful things about understanding human psychology is being able to step out of the game and smile :)
