Political party votes to scrap royal funding

and they will still generate that money, we dont need an old woman sat on the throne with a funny hat on to attract visitors...

the palace of Versaille attract thousands a year, and have no royal family sat inside, they are currently charging nearly £25 a look

Do you know much money is generated for the UK economy from one off royal events, such as royal weddings and births? Or how much the royal ‘brand’ is worth in total. What would replace that? Biscuit tins with Theresa May’s face on?

How much?

People have a fascination with failed monarchy. Buckingham Palace and Windsor Castle could be bigger money spinners than Versailles if we fully open them to the public.

BTW we're not talking about exterminating the royal family. They can still get married and have babies. Their brand would survive, they just don't need to be an integral part of the state any more.

The British Royal family is the most famous and most recognised Royal family in the World. Money can't buy heritage and no amount of money can buy or create an alternative brand to the British Royal family to equally benefit the British economy. I don't think any alternative use for Royal funding could deliver better value for money and most likely would just be wasted.

As long as we can ensure we take all Crown Estates income out of the Barnett Formula pot and see how Wee Jimmy Krankie copes then.

Oh and for those who bang on about figures. Last financial year the Crown Estates generated just under £247m into the public purse after the queen got her soverign payment. Wonder how that compares to the costs/benefit analysis of other heads of state.

Bet someone like Trump would piddle that sort of money away just on travel costs or wig glue. Wonder how much Nicola Queen of Scots would piddle away down the drain if she got her grubby hands on true control.

The Queen doesn’t donate that personally or even create the wealth. The Crown Estate is a property portfolio which includes the whole of Regent Street and the whole of the UK seabed.

I don’t know how other countries have managed without a Monarchy ?

Support for public funding of the Royal family is the great contradiction of the Conservative party. It doesn't matter that it breaks down to a very small amount per tax payer, or that they attract tourism etc, the Tories in-built instinct is for things to support themselves. Not the Royal family though.

You seem to be unaware of the Wide scope and influence of the French Revolution ..

The French president is voted in by the public.. it's democracy .. nobody ever voted for the English royal family to be heads of state..

It's all well having the power to vote someone in/out, but at what cost? :suspect:
