Magilla
Trump today claimed "Germany is totally controlled by Russia because they will be getting from 60% to 70% of their energy from Russia". Leaving aside the issue of Trump of all people accusing someone else of being controlled by Russia, how accurate is the 60% to 75% claim? Answer: Not very: And sets a target for EU NATO contributions that are way beyond what the US spends I think I see a pattern here, clearly the best plan of action would be to call him an idiot like Kim did, and he'll fall over himself to ingratiate and please you! Maybe europe should try it
altus
But Russia is still responsible for supplying 50-75% of the gas that Germany uses, 20% of that gas goes to making energy so I would still say that Germany relies on Russia for most of it's gas supply and some of its electricity supply. If Trump has just been talking about Germany's gas consumption he'd have been correct. He wasn't, he referred to all their energy consumption - so was exaggerating the value by a factor of five. How do you think such a poor grasp of details affects his ability to make decisions? Do you think his "totally controlled by Russia" was even vaguely accurate? What he said is that they would be getting 60-70% of their energy from Russia, read the BBC article and it says that Germany is going to reduce coal use and stop nuclear so that figure will be correct. gamezone07
When the many hundreds who will be in Sheffield for the anti-Trump march/rally Friday evening have finished, perhaps they could have another one when they look around and see just how many homeless there are in the city. Magilla
What he said is that they would be getting 60-70% of their energy from Russia, read the BBC article and it says that Germany is going to reduce coal use and stop nuclear so that figure will be correct. No, it doesn't:- The country is trying to reduce its use of coal and cut out nuclear altogether, which means its use of gas and renewables is likely to increase. Some of the extra gas is likely to come from Russia as a result of the building of a new pipeline under the Baltic Sea called Nord Stream 2, which Mr Trump referred to. But even with the new pipeline, the use of gas in Germany will not increase by nearly enough to mean 60% to 70% of energy will be coming from Russia https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-44794688 Weird how you missed that bit off... init Edited July 11, 2018 by Magilla

I'm pretty sure that there are legions of analysts that have looked at the data and come up with that figure. ---- Init :hihi: ----
Magilla
Who says that Germany won't end up using the figures that Trump quoted? Well, certainly not the BBC as you claimed. They specifically stated the opposite! I'm pretty sure that there are legions of analysts that have looked at the data and come up with that figure. ---- Init :hihi: ---- It's far more likely that, as originally stated, Trump doesn't have the faintest grasp of what he's talking about or is just plain lying. It's not like he doesn't have form, the guy can hardly string a coherent sentence together.

Magilla
Would that be the left leaning Trump hating BBC? No, that would be the article *you* quoted and invited everyone to read! And again with your "lefty" prattle, you really should learn not to throw the dummy out when you make a fool of yourself.

You could have just said it slipped his mind or something.
