I would suggest that there's a far greater chance of him being bumped off, than the likelihood of a few hundred rioters armed only with sticks, and fire extinguishers taking over the United States, by force.

Indeed he would be lauded as a true patriot and guaranteed a life of ease in a recreational and rehabilitation "facility", kept busy with Media interviews, writing books, and deciding which Hollywood actor he wants to portray him in the Hollywood blockbuster movies. 

 

Some State Attorneys might even decline to prosecute him at all

Presidential candidates and ex-Presidents don't fare to well either! Bobby Kennedy,  Martin Luther King and George Wallace come to mind.

 

And every President, including Obama and Trump have been targeted in a less dramatic attempts., like bombs mailed to Obama and Trump and ricin laced letters mailed to Trump.
