so, my views on Trump are obvious, and for all to see, i find him an odious individual.

BUT

Looking at the latest judgement by the Supreme court i do agree with the opposition  that it does impact on the rule of law and it allows a President (whoever that may be) to be above the law and do whatever they may want with no threat of prosecution at all, for anything.

They could kill opponents on the city streets.

Invade Countries.

Import / export drugs.

Steal and embezzle your countries wealth.

Kill citizens.

Turn yourself into a dictator by changing the countries laws and constitutions.

Order the army or civillians to take over public buildings and ignore / destroy democracy.

etc etc

some would say they do this already, but it does lessen the threat of punishment.

There are many checks and balances on a tyranical U.S. President.

The other equal branches of government, The House of Congress, the Senate, and the Judiciary.

There's Impeachment, and various Constitutional clauses, such as the 25th Amendment.

While a President can adjudge and assassinate a terrorist leader at will, as both previous Presidents did, the other co-equal branches of government can remove a President like Obama and Trump, if they judge such powers are not "reasonable" in their sworn duty to protect their citizens.

The  recent moaning foofaraw is the latest charade from the Left, who couldn't remove Trump, even with their TWO partisan Impeachments.  And couldn't prevent him from being allowed on the ballot.😃

Not to mention Project 2025, where the Republicans aim to remove many of the other checks and balances. e.g. Replace senior civil servants, who currently swear an allegiance to the constitution not any particular president, with those loyal to Trump.

Nobody IS above the law.

Trump's allegations and appeals are proceeding through the legal channels of the Biden Administration.

Where the rules of evidence are followed.

A citizen is presumed innocent, until found guilty, and his appeals have been adjudicated, not just based on the number of "allegations" against him, by folks who don't like him.

It's a system which keeps the lynch mobs, and the torch and pitchfork horde from taking over. And ultra Left partisans like Nancy Pelosi, who urged the Congress and Senate to rush to Impeach Trump a second time, NOW! because in her opinion he was a grave danger. I forget which set of "allegations" she was using at the time, because they are running the gamut on the charges.

"We will NOT wait for the Courts", she infamously cried.

And whatever happened to her?

Relax, the wheels of Justice grind slowly, but grind exceedingly fine.

ah the old political out to get me stuff

IM NOT TALKING ABOUT TRUMP, forget trump, im talking about the future, this affects ALL presidents from here on in, all are above the law, the law doesnt affect them, they can do anything without inpunity, as long as they do the things under the guise of being President.

same with soldiers, theres always talk about soldiers that have done tours in Ireland being given immunity, NO, nobody should be above the law, if you do something bad you should face the consequences, its creating a two tier system, yes accidents happen, yes mistakes happen, but so do soldiers being over zealous and killing and torturing and maiming innocent people. and thats what courts are there for, to decide whether its a mistake or evil intent.

During the 2016 election campaign, Trump lead chants of "lock her up" against Hillary, not chants of "investigate and give her a fair trial".

Nope!

Congress, elected by the people, have the power of Impeachment, and the 25th Amendment to remove a President from office, for misconduct, by Trial in the Senate. also elected by the people, by a simple two thirds majority vote!

The crowd were just having fun!

Trump was in office for 4 years. Not once did he show any interest in "locking Hillary up!"

But here's a guy, Brennan, Obama's CIA Director, who was deadly serious and was a fixture on CNN for two years, telling the American People that Trump was a Russian Traitor.  The Guardian was correct calling him a liar, but they should have used the term "serial liar".

And you talk about the danger to U.S. Democracy?  😃

I thought the USA wanted to get rid of a monarchy back in 1776 (amongst other things).  Sounds like the Supreme count is trying to re-introduce it

They did get rid of them!

But I see you lot are still stuck with King Charles 111, and Her Majesty Camilla.

Wasn't somebody in this thread,  above,  talking about "morals"?  😃

An interesting by product of this judgement now is, Biden could technically get Trump assassinated as an enemy of the state (as long as he does it under presidential workings.

The U.S. Election system is totally corrupt!

When the reality is Trump wants, same day voting, voter ID, and the results tabulated and certified no later than the next day, including absentee ballots, that must have legally verifiable reasons, and which can be achieved by early voting.

Cheap and cheerful, as we used to say!

Madness! 😀

Trump seemed content with the electoral process when he won and did nothing to alter it during his term in office.

When he lost under the same system the same system then he tried to come up with any excuse to “find “ votes .

Not a good loser is he ,even on the golf course apparently.
