We understand that this is an emotive subject, and discussing the facts is totally fine.
Posting insults is not.
Jared is local to us, and could well be a member of the forum, we dont allow name calling and insults on other threads and they arent acceptable on this one either.

But hes got a sick note

But Labour and the Tories have a long-standing agreement that they pair their sick or otherwise absent MPs for votes, so that doesn't affect the outcome.

This won't be happening with him as an independent, so the Tory majority is therefore increased by 1.

Assuming there was a by-election that seems to assume Labour would win. That's by no means a certainty. At present there is no by-election in prospect and only the LibDems have selected a candidate ready for any election, be it in a few weeks or 4 years. She's campaigning hard, our letter box stuffed in 2018 already.

It might not be in Jeremy's best interests to have such an election any time soon. Losing to LibDems would be bad enough, but a resurgent Tory party united behind a strong candidate would really upset his apple cart. Unlikely, but imagine coming 3rd! A week can be a very long time in politics. "Events dear boy, events" is another way of putting it.

Jared may be with us for some time.

Labour will lose the next election in Hallam no matter what. Their reputation in the constituency is destroyed because of this individual. Remember this is the first time they have ever won the seat, after 100 odd years of Conservatives and then 20 of Liberals. Some introduction to the party for the area!

But they need to play the long game. Make an integrity-led decision. Let the Lib Dems take the by-election. And then put up an unsullied strong candidate (like Coppard) in 2022, when actually it might affect the outcome of the next government.

Of course, two of the main reasons for O'Mara winning were Clegg's betrayal of the students & Labour's promise to scrap student fees at the June 2017 Gen. Election.

But of course following Labour's defeat, by June 2017, that Labour election 'promise' was downgraded to an 'ambition'.

On the money.

Really embarrassing that he's still not been sacked, whilst Toby Young has gone

The Nasty Party have now got the moral high ground!

Not really. They’ve still got Anne Marie Morris on their books. That pretty much negates any chance of taking the moral high ground.
