Summer/winter time

I read that Poland wants to emulate it- except that their EU overlords won't allow that.

Even the Telegraph and other media who copied and pasted this story with its glaring errors, cannot find a reason to blame the EU for this. No outcome mentioned.

Why stop at blaming (inaccurately) "EU overlords" when UKIP could blame (accurately) the Arabs and even better, French farmers.

DST changes were introduced by many European countries (EU and non EU countries) in a response to the oil crisis after October 1973.

Since the 80s European countries have agreed to a "schedule" on DST i.e. we all change our clocks at the same time, this was included in a EEA directive-not EU.

There is no requirement or directive that specifies which time a country should use as long as any changes take place at the same time.

We are now on GMT, lets leave it there and not go forward in March

There are two quite distinct issues which journalists inveterately conflate:

1. Should UK time be based (at least in winter) on GMT or on GMT+1?

2. Should UK time change in Spring and Autumn each year?

Nothing that anybody does will create more or fewer daylight hours.

All that clock-moving does is to shift one hour of daylight from morning to evening or vice-versa.
