GOLDEN OLDIE
Did all the nuns disappear from Sheffield in the 1980s? There used to be so many Catholic orders. Notre Dame, Sisters of Charity, to name just two. Was it the decrease in vocations among young girls that caused it?
pattricia
Don’t remind me please ! I was moved from a perfectly happy Shirecliffe school to the horribly unhappy Convent High School For Girls on Burngreave Rd. It was run by The Sisters Of Mercy but they showed us no mercy. I was very unhappy there as there was no laughter, and we had to pray most of the time. I believe Notre Dame is still open.
max
There's still the Carmelite one at Kirk Edge.
