Hello Island girl,anytime i mention the East House my dad says "i was in there when Tommy so and so got shot," I forgot the surname. I think he mentioned gambling but i can't say for sure.I won't see him for 3 weeks,but i will ask for details.

I was only 11 at the time of the shootings but it was headline news for a long time and I remember it very clearly. In 1975 I worked with Gilbert Robertson (1921-87) who was the unarmed policeman who had confronted Ismail in the toilets and disarmed him. I always thought that Gilbert deserved a B.E.M. or some other medal for this, but he didn't get anything.

I think 5 men were shot, two killed, about 1962.

 

I knew the two brothers Don( severely disabled by the wounds) and Michael McFarlane (killed)- .

The gunman was a mentally-ill Somali, after serving a sentence here he went back to Somalia and did the same again!
