tinfoilhat
Having walked round the town centre on Saturday I was amazed the amount of scaffolding round several buildings. The scaffold wrapped around WHSmiths seems to have been there forever. I cant help thinking it must be bad planning on behalf of either the town-planners or the shop-owners to have this set of obstacles and eyesores on the busy streets at this time of year/Does anyone else feel the same as me. Does scaffolding put you off going in a shop?
AmberLeaf
It looks like a big climbing frame. I've sort of gotten used to it, and have actually forgotten what it looked like before
Daven
I agree Paula. Centre of Sheffield is very depressing. Wholeheartedly disagree with this. Sheffield centre is bright and lively at this time of the year. Scaffolding around a building doesn't really matter does it ? Open your eyes ! longiesta
I thought WHSmiths building was being underpinned (could have imagined that though) According to a planning notice stuck on the gate at the back of M&S the building that has Samuels and Paperchase in is having the upper floors converted to residential (from whatever was up there before!) parkydave
All this surely is good news bringing these lovely buildings back to life sort of speak . The scaffolding will be a thing of the past and forgotten when all this work is complete .Lets look forward to that .

Could be a bit like an advent calendar where a bit gets done each day, and then by Xmas day it’s done!
AmberLeaf
Well it would appear that WH Smith’s is closing on Fargate.
paula4sheff
Only until 'later in the year' apparently, which is worryingly vague. Another empty site in the High Street doesn't look great does it? Edited January 24, 2018 by nikki-red

Another empty site in the High Street doesn't look great does it? There are large scale repairs required to the unit WH Smith currently occupy so they are moving into the old co op on pinstone street until they are completed. The council has agreed a subsidised rate during the temporary relocation so WH Smith can remain in town centre whilst the work is completed.
