Pagoda Bank Building (Chinese Fireworks)

Recommended Posts

Hey, does anyone know what the original use of the Pagoda Bank building (Currently Chinese Fireworks) in the corner between London road and Cemetery road.

Was it really a Barklays Bank? How come it is called pagoda and has Chinese references in the facade? Seems to be the same with the Sainsbury's (Lansdowne picture house) across the road as well.

I too remember it being built in the mid-1950s & that it was completed in 1956; the date of completion is inscribed on the London Road side of the building. It was originally a branch of Barclays Bank but I think it closed around the time the MSC building was completed.
