Depends what the purpose is doesn't it? If you walk into a room and someone is playing it on their TV and you see it - have you just engaged in a sexual activity? I don't think that phrase (in the context it was suggested, sat watching a screen) would be recognised by say, a judge, because it is a "passive" action.
