Council tree felling...

Watching Look North tonight, they featured a report on an extraordinary SCC meeting, called to discuss the recent report on the tree felling.

Many of the Labour councillors failed to turn up, including the main ones that many blame for the fiasco  & who were high profile & vocal at the height of the felling, such as Couns. Terry Fox & Bryan Lodge, thereby dodging those in the public gallery who were seeking answers.

An apology was issued by the current Mayor, who said it was a "A dark period for Sheffield."

After the meeting had concluded, the BBC tried to obtain interviews with the Mayor; our CEO, Kate Josephs or any Labour councillors.  All refused to participate.

Current Mayor of Sheffield?

Coincidentally one week after local elections.

Thanks . Never heard of her . Has she any power in the council?

Casting vote maybe?  Mayor role is basically ceremonial.

But like all the Lab councillor today, none were willing to be quizzed by the BBC or those in the public gallery who were invited to speak to at the meeting.   The events were a "Dark period for Sheffield",  according to the Mayor.  More like a dark period for the Lab group on SCC.

It's nice to have streets lined with trees but the tree's need to be appropriate. Many of the tree's that line certain streets are ridiculously enormous; the people that planted them all those years ago possibly never imagined they'd get so big.

Never imagined the heads would get so big in the town hall too.

Once again,  we are a laughing stock

What's wrong with big trees? They're beautiful.

Also possible to pollard them to restrict their growth if required.

Try and live with one outside your house. Caused misery here with broken sewers cracked paths, £100s  spent cleaning gutters and down pipes out, having to have lights switched on all day in summer because it's so dark. No problem when we moved in but no work done on them for years . The houses round here are 3 storeys and they tower over them.
