East Coast main line nationalised -again.

Recommended Posts

Many things seem to be beyond your current incarnation.

Let’s just reverse your question. How much worse would the Government be than the private sector at running the East Coast mainline?

You’d need to be pretty poor to be £2.2bn worse than Stagecoach.

You've seen the cabinet right? You've seen the MOD? There's not much the government doesn't screw up.

Surely this set of right wing extremists could make the trains run on time.

I'm not sure they could run a bath without arguing about the fact the taps weren't British enough, meanwhile the bath overflows and floods the entire house. The other lot wouldnt be any better. Corbyn would be torn on whether to start with cold water or the more traditional hot water and it wouldn't get filled at all.

I can't think of anything HMs government does with any degree of competency.

  • 3 months later...

Stagecoach looses the franchise to operate the East Coast mainline.

In changing his mind again, today Grayling announces that Arup is going to operate the ECML instead of Stagecoach.

This will cost to the taxpayer will be billions.

This will effect Sheffield users as more will need to use London services from Doncaster. From June until October Sheffield travellers will pay a great deal more for their travel to London by Stagecoach EMT. Train services are cut in half and very few Advance tickets will be available.

Been on the cards for a while, the figures always looked optimistic.

They had promised to pay the government £3.3bn over 8 years, the previous East Coast paid £1bn over 5 years.

You had to wonder where all this extra money was going to come from.

So once again when the private sector drops the ball it's up to the public sector to rescue the situation....until such time as it's convenient for the tories to reward their chums again.

I note no restrictions have been placed on Virgin or Stagecoach from bidding for other chunks of the national infrastructure.
