Memorial tree decision - Town Hall 13/12/17

Recommended Posts

Lib Dems and Tory prospective councillors can walk the walk and talk the talk all they want pre-election about them being able to save trees etc, the moment they get into office and into power the stark reality would hit that there there is a huge contract and the Council are skint.

Your arguments are just whataboutery. Because people have not protested about X, it means they should not protest about Y.

What have you personally done to try and get the crimea memorial put back?

What a strange coincidence that tree protesters are complaining about the removal of trees, and are trying to garner extra support by banging on about these being "memorials".

Come on, lets be clear, are you protesting about all the War Memorials, or just the ones that are trees?

Bandwagon...

What other War Memorials in Sheffield are threatened with destruction that we should be 'banging on' about?

Apparently the Council are also planning to fell the 4 mature plane trees in Fitzalan Square

That’s because Fitzalan Square is being redeveloped from the current layout.

The new scheme includes new trees.

It looks great if you google the plans.

Indeed they are yes. Again, an unnecessary course of action.

If you are so inclined, you can sign a petition here. I don't believe there is a PFI contract pulling the strings in this case, so strength of opposition might actually have some effect this time..

Sensible designers will include existing mature trees in public realm schemes, not remove and replace them unnecessarily.

Which other "war memorials" require maintenance and are damaging the pavement?

All war memorials require maintenance.

As has been discussed at length numerous times, in the majority of cases the damage to the pavement is minimal, and could be easily rectified.

I think the council have made big mistakes with the way all this has been handled, which will come back and bite them next election.

Hopefully , but the problem is , the same old people will still vote Labour because their fathers and grandfathers voted Labour.
