There should be a fair balance between punishment for committing the crime, which isn't just a prevention of liberty and treating offenders in a way to encourage rehabilitation. Judging by the report on TV today, prisons are pretty disgusting places; cockroaches, rats, rotting rubbish etc. Not a place I would like to be. Some should be happy with that.
