Recommended Posts

Blue bins not emptied Friday due to snow, Not emptied on catch up day Saturday, nobody came New Years Eve, not expecting anyone NYD so do we just leave them out till someone comes, they are all looking full due to time of year.

Also an interesting item on plastic recycling.

Seems China is happy to send plastic crap to everyone but no longer wants any back.

How about being proactive and take it to the tip yourself. You can also read what the collection timetable is over the holiday period. Not exactly difficult.

Also, why should China have an obligation for taking OUR waste?

Not that hard. Is it?

"Update on disruption to waste and recycling collections – Saturday 30th December 2017

Due to the snow and ice creating difficult conditions on the roads within the city, we were unable to carry out all waste and recycling collections on, Friday 29th December 2017.

Our crews are out today and are working hard to clear any backlog as quickly as possible.

For regular service updates, please visit http://www.veolia.co.uk/sheffield, follow us on Twitter @Recycle4Shef or call 0114 2734567.

Residents are advised to leave their bin/box out until they have been emptied.

If your collection is due today, Saturday 30th December, please put your containers out as normal.

We apologise for any inconvenience caused."

Yeah yeah read all that but when they have been out for 4/5 days and site hasn’t been updated from “catching up on Saturday” you do start to wonder if they just won’t be collected.

Waited 3 years for road to be resurfaced and now they said they aren’t doing it so anything remotely associated with council is likely to go tits up.

And I still think China should stop producing what they refuse to recycle so there.

Your suggestion that hundreds of people should make individual trips to the tip rather than being patient and asking for advice on whether it will eventually be collected is abhorrent to me.

And what if the OP doesn't drive? Should they lug the contents of their full blue bin and box onto the bus, if there is a bus service that runs from where they live to the nearest tip that is?

There may be a solution in sight, according to BBC winds going to get up to 40mph+ Tuesday night so the blue bins, crates and contents if they are still waiting to be collected will be down the bottom of the road.

It’s ok though, I have my house number in my bin.

Tip it in your back garden and burn it. Problem solved or just chuck it in your black wheelie bin.

It is the importer/seller who has a duty regarding the processing of the waste packaging, not the country of origin.

The problem regarding the exporting of waste is that we've traditionally exported low grade waste abroad and each exporter can get a "credit" for each tonne they export. These "credits" can then be sold to the importers/sellers to assuage their responsibilities.

If China will only accept higher quality waste then there will be a glut of low grade stuff on the market......it is less profitable for home grown businesses to process low grade stuff (hence the desire to export). A glut of waste means the price per tonne for processing will be low and many recycling companies and processors won't be able to turn a profit. And it is the profit motive that drives the whole recycling industry.
