gamezone07
Are insurance underwriters asking for maintained alarm systems for even basic insurance now? I am with Unite(union) Insurance which cover many low paid workers and even they say this is now non negotiable, maintained systems cost a fortune, when did this start to be a requirement? cgksheff
I have never come across it and have never even been required to have a 'non-maintained' alarm. While we are on the subject, I am pleased to have just dropped my existing insurer whose renewal quote was 4x the cheapest available and still double the one that I have gone with. All with comparable terms/excesses etc.

cgksheff
I have just run through the Unite website for a quote and got a quote without an alarm. Have you looked to see what is available on GoCompare, or CompareTheMarket? Have you made claims that involved burglary? cgksheff
It could be that other houses in your postcode have been prone to burglary.
gamezone07
Just doing go compare, ridiculous questions, 'how much is the rebuild cost of your home?' How do i know its rented, and only a flat
cgksheff
You should have selected "Contents only". You don't need buildings insurance if you are a tenant.
