Ontarian1981
No votes for over 65s, ok, so nobody 65 and over can be voted for then! Hear, hear, old boy!
Anna B
What a load of rubbish. I think after 65 years of experience, years of working, years of paying taxes, years of bringing up families etc, over 65s have well and truly earned the right to vote. Just more divide and conquer tactics. Lets find a vulnerable group we can blame for the mess we're in then people won't pick on us. Youngsters should remember what goes around comes around, they themselves will be old one day. If they want things to change they need to fight for it by dealing with the elites who make the rules, not the OAPs who simply follow them. area 51
Probably all Paxmans friends are like him and work in very well paid jobs and so easily able to afford to buy their own houses and don't need help to keep warm in the winter. A lot of older peoples pensions have been less than they expected due to circumstances beyond their control, brought on by wealthy bankers and business tycoons ie a certain Mr Green. Perhaps Paxman would be better talking out of his mouth instead of the orifice in the lower half of the body. Exactly, and those who have got savings are using them up quickly because banks are giving next to zero interest back on savings.
I1L2T3
I agree we should have the conversation. If only to understand why the over 65s seem to have lost touch with the realities facing younger generations. ---------- Post added 11-02-2018 at 20:16 ---------- Exactly, and those who have got savings are using them up quickly because banks are giving next to zero interest back on savings. A lot have money tied up in property. Asset rich but cash poor, and living cold, frugal lives in unsuitable properties. We need to fix that problem. In the coming years we probably need millions of housing units suitable for older people. They’re not getting built.
El Cid
People over 65 now were no better of we did not pay £40 + for a mobile phone contract most did not have a car never mind paying for a car loan we were taught if you can't pay for it save up and pay for it. Foreign holidays were very rare and no credit cards. Back when Thatcher was in power, the principle behind the 'Poll tax' was that people who where not paying for public services - would just vote for the party that gave them more. Students, if given the vote, will always vote for the party that give free university. Perhaps people over a certain ago no longer should vote, but as 65 is no longer the retirement age, perhaps it should be older.

area 51
Tow'd Paxo still not got over the referendum result then eh? Yep,and still blaming pensioners and all the others still blaming the northern working class when it was mostly middle class southerners that voted leave. https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2016/aug/07/north-poor-brexit-myths

A lot of older people would like to downsize to bungalows, but they are very thin on the ground, and what there are tend to be very expensive, often more than the bigger home they're trying to sel. That means they stay put. Builders and developers can make more money out of 2 storey houses so don't want to build affordable bungalows.l
