Grey Skies, Nothing But Grey Skies..

Recommended Posts

It is the temperature of the vast ocean deeps have a far greater effect on climate than anything else.

Any global climate trend would be seen in ocean temperature, current, salinity and levels of dissolved gases, changes which has been very accurately collected and calibrated for 150 years plus.

The existence of  "jet streams" is due to solar radiation, the exact position of the "jet stream" is due to  ocean temperature and currents and the position of mountain chains and continents-that cause the weather.

Weather records are popular but irrelevant as indicators of long term climate change.

The 150 years of surface navy and research ship recording the ocean depth, 70 years of nuclear submarine records, 50 years of commercial and military deep ocean automatic sensors have led to a very accurate picture. Despite  satellites not  able to directly measure the physical and chemical properties of the ocean depths they are very good at real time measurements  and can also 'see' algae, sea ice, surface current, upwelling, clarity etc which are interpreted and used in modelling.

Change is happening, how much, how quickly and the impact is open to interpretation.

The time scales are multi-generational.

Personally I belong to the 'leave' campaign.

Lets leave the Ice Age and its ice caps and increase the land area available to live on.

Definitely weather!

The Northern Hemisphere is in the middle of its Summer.

Meanwhile, the Southern Hemisphere is in the middle of its Winter.

How's their weather?

Melbourne has coldest May morning since 1949, with 1.7C, while Adelaide has its joint coldest May night since 1927 at 3.5C - The Guardian, June 2021

COLD PERU: “WE ARE GOING THROUGH ONE OF THE MOST INTENSE WINTERS IN 50 YEARS”
JULY 26, 2019

Lima, the capital of Peru, is going through one of its coldest winters in almost 50 years, according to the National Service of Meteorology and Hydrology, with this year even surpassing the truly brutal 2018 season. -electroversedotcom

COLD CHILE: "The coldest day in these 71 years was reported by the weather station Balmaceda. Here the temperature dropped to -20.8 °C in June 2017.  - https://www.worlddata.info/america/chile/climate.php

COLD ARGENTINA: BUENOS AIRES, 2017 (AP) — Officials say cold weather and freezing temperatures from a polar wave have killed two people in Argentina.

The National Meteorological Service says the cold front comes all the way from the South Pole and is hitting Argentina’s center and northern regions particularly hard. Temperatures in those areas have reached as low as 19.4 Fahrenheit (-7 Celsiu).

An absolute record of -13.7 Fahrenheit (-25.4 Celsius) was also registered in the Patagonian ski resort of Bariloche.

Fortunately our planet has an amazing capabilty to average out these temps over the whole Planet.  Its called weather, see Regression toward the mean, outliers and the Second Law of Thermodynamic (The second law may be formulated by the observation that the entropy of isolated systems left to spontaneous evolution cannot decrease, as they always arrive at a state of thermodynamic equilibrium, )
