horribleblob
I agree with the sentiments already expressed in this thread. A close family member, who met the Professor a couple of years ago, sent me a text early this morning with the news. Stephen Hawking: born on 8 January Galileo Galilei: died on 8 January Stephen Hawking: died on 14 March Albert Einstein: born on 14 March A nice one to leave us with, Stephen. I can sense the theorists awakening already.
Calahonda
An absolute giant in his field, he will be compared to the likes of Einstein. Was he ever offered a knighthood by the way? I ask because in the same week as Sir Ken Dodd dies, and I mean no disrespect to him, if he wasn’t then surely he should have been.

Sharing all the tributes, I had the highest respect for him, not only as a scientist, but as an amazing human being. R I P Stephen
Top Cats Hat
He refused a knighthood, but he most certainly deserved one. The guy was bigger than and worth so much more than a meaningless bauble. He did well to make it to the age he did with his very rare form of motor neurone disease.

R I P Stephen Yes I wondered why he wasn't knighted-a well esteemed man- and yet it has been have received for having goofy teeth, unruly hair and walking around with feather dusters telling jokes. taxman
Amazing though that the US, and other stone age societies have lurched so far towards Creationism. Despite facts.
blake
Hawking left his wife and ran off with another woman, in 1994. oh wait. It wasn't like that. She ran off with him.
