UK driving licences, post Brexit.

Recommended Posts

who ever said any different, we leave the EU we lose EU rights, and EU nationals lose rights here too...unless they are negotiated

It will be lmpossible to negotiate every aspect of current rights, surely passporting the lesser ones would be sensible.

New documents published by the European Commission show that they will reject UK driving licences as being valid for use in the EU after Brexit and intend to charge a fee for drivers in the form of a driving permit to be able to drive on the continent.

In the report, it seems that after Brexit formally happens, there will no longer be ‘mutual recognition of driving licences, vehicle registration documents and certificates of professional competence for drivers. All current EU law-based rights, obligations and benefits cease, meaning that our current driving regulations in relation to driving in the EU will change, but to what extent is currently unknown.

An IDP. As a British licence holder, I need one for 140 countries around the world including places such as Australia where they drive on the same side of the road as us. It costs £8.

I assume an EU licence holder will need to also buy an IDP in order to drive in Britain in the future.

That’s what I used to do when I have lived abroad outside of the Eu. No biggie really.

So when I visit the Ma in law in Eire, my driving licence will not be recognised and invalid, and I will be charged for a driving permit. It will never happen, fake news from the Remoaners.

They didn't have to as its up to the government to form the policies not the voters.

Quite a lot of brass comes to the South in the form of tourism, I can see no way the Irish would interfere in any way to reduce this. Shoot yourself in the foot comes to mind.

Wow - you've sorted the whole Irish question out.

Brilliant.

Oh hold on, won't the British want their pound of flesh - even if the EU don't?

That and no borders so free movement, oh hold on, isn't that what the brexiteers don't want so there will be borders and charges, but hold on isn't that what the EU won't accept, but hold on isn't that what Mother Teresa says won't happen, but hold on ....... ad infinitum

Yes must have, go to the States = no fee, no extra documentation.

Go over the channel = fees and extra documentation.

I await veiled insults.

Exactly my thoughts, we must both be idiots.

But don't you pay visa fees to the USA which is a way of hiding the charges?
