Jim Hardie
House of Fraser to close over half of their remaining UK stores, surely this is yet another message that city/town centre retail is in terminal decline. Apparently they are attempting to talk to the landlords of their stores, that should be interesting. They left Sheffield High St years ago. Where Sheffield leads, others follow. Staunton
And don't forget the changing face of the ring road, the endless development of windowless sheds where minimum wage order pickers shall toil in a twenty-four hour culture of misery and exploitation processing branded sportswear and designer handbags! acmmjw
I can see city centres being mainly housing in the future. The high street is hanging on for it's life. It has so many factors working against it, it doesn't stand a chance.
melthebell
what i want to know is, are high streets in other countrys facing the same type of hardships? and if not...why not, WE ALL use the internet.
Jeffrey Shaw
I can see city centres being mainly housing in the future. ...which, long ago, is just what they were (with small manufactories).

Jeffrey Shaw
WE ALL use the internet. That's not wholly true, even nowadays.
melthebell
That's not wholly true, even nowadays. sigh ok MOST people in most countries use the internet these days, you know exactly what i meant. The point is, if a lot of these closures are due to the likes of online sales, are other countries high streets experiencing the same issues? or is it just us? if so its more to do with other issues. alchresearch
Simply Be and Jacamo owner N Brown mulls closing all stores https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-44479925 Not surprised. Sometimes moving from a successful online presence to a physical one doesn't always work. The stores near me are always empty - the Liverpool one of another big and tall brand is down a back alley and I only stumbled upon it by accident.
