Pensioner, 78, arrested on suspicion of murder after suspected burglar

Did you pass his description on to the local plod?

Just a report of him acting suspiciously, along with his vehicle reg could help.

Out at Stockbridge about seven miles from the nearest police station (Eccles field) we have a steady stream of scrapman, thieves and vagabonds roaming the streets at all times of day and night ,the not so local police are too busy doing what ever they do to keep coming all that way from their nice warm police station to find the suspicious person or thief has long since gone, two weeks ago the garage two doors from our closed police station was robbed at knife point if they had left Ecclesfield as the alarm was raised the blokes on a bike would have been at least seven miles away.

Because they actually have police sat in the police station, just waiting for you to call them.

They're not all out responding to incidents and investigating crimes already, because the central government haven't reduced police numbers by 22,000 in the last decade, nor slashed police funding massively.

I can't imagine an area the size of Stocksbridge not having a police presence. Growing up in a small village in the 40s and 50s, we had two policemen resident there, one at one end of the village and one at the other. One was always available for whatever reason. Their houses had a police badge at the side of the front door, so everybody knew they where they were.
