Cyclone
http://www.nutmums.com/disability-discrimination-peanut-allergy/ Just reading about that and I suspect that it counts only sometimes and depending on the circumstance. Albeit this isn't a legal document, just the first google hit. If there's actual legislation you can link then I will of course change my opinion. ---------- Post added 21-04-2018 at 06:54 ---------- I'm not sure this is true. I go into Tai Sun and Yi-Mart regularly and everything I've ever bought has an English label on it, which as I understand it is put on by the importer, not the store. So which supermarket is it that is importing non-labelled products? I don't know, but I suspect that the thai 'supermarket' at the bottom of London Road doesn't label anything, I'm sure I've seen things in there which are just Greek to me... EmmaJones76
No - that would be racism. ---------- Post added 20-04-2018 at 23:00 ---------- No - that would be speeding recklessly and they would have a chance of killing someone through their own reckless actions. Just like someone with a nut allergy inadvertently eating something from one of these packets, hmm?

The employment tribunal in that case decided that a peanut allergy was considered to be a disability as defined by the Act and it is a persuasive case in law. The consideration of what would be a reasonable adjustment is going to be something for a case by case determination though.
Cyclone
Just like someone with a nut allergy inadvertently eating something from one of these packets, hmm? How do you inadvertently eat something? You've got an allergy, you look for the ingredients, illegally they're not listed, so you do what, eat some anyway?

blake
How do you inadvertently eat something? very easily. We all of us, eat insects all the time. Probably a kilo or two of insects, over the course of the average lifetime and even if you are not Thai.
Guest makapaka
I refer you to post #93 which you might not have seen since it was addressed to makapaka. That’s to do with restaurants cooking food though isn’t it? Not you buying it from a shop - if you’re asking is it reasonable to not expect to be harmed when you go for a meal in a restaurant I’d agree with you. If you’re telling me you’re allergic and bought foods with foreign ingredients in that you can’t understand then I don’t.
Ontarian1981
Shoppers in Bejing are annoyed that bottles of HP sauce at the supermarket have no Chinese writing on the label. What a bunch of mardy arses.

Indeed, but inadvertently eating something from within a sealed packet, that doesn't wander on it's own into your mouth is quite a lot harder. ---------- Post added 23-04-2018 at 18:41 ---------- One of the contributory causes was that the kitchen staff couldnt understand the ingredients because they were unable to understand the labelling... This sort of stuff kills people. That's negligence, don't cook with something who's ingredients you don't know, that goes double, triple, if you're serving someone else! Obelix
And when I cannot identify any of the ingredients in any food wrappign what then? And please don't come back with "oh it's one packet why are you making a fuss". I'm making a fuss whenever I see this because these laws are designed to stop all packets being mislabelled, just like when almost all boarding houses had "no blacks no irish" signs in the windows....
