ukdobby
That must rank as one the least informed observations I have seen for a long time. I am thankful individuals like you have no influence over such things. Well people like you contribute zilch, well done.

redfox
So what solution would you come up with?and how do get more than zilch? I think you mean how do you prevent people getting into a car and driving it too fast and whilst intoxicated. Simple answer is you can't. When they do and offend you sentence them appropriately - and hanging people went out with the Ark when it came to sentencing policy. Enough contribution for you ? You don't get sarcasm do you? No you can't prevent 'people' from being idiots but this scumbag would have been inside at the time if the judiciary wasn't so soft on repeat offenders. Even now he's got off with far less than the law allows. Compounded with the deceit that he'll be away for nine years, the boys' family must feel totally let down by the system. El Cid
How do you stop someone from ignoring a driving ban and previous prison sentence from physically getting in a car? You can't. Certainly not by passing more laws or changing the sentences for existing ones. A drug addict will do almost anything if he/she does not get their drugs, so the answer to that is either give them free drugs or help them to kick the habit. Below is just a headline, I have no knowledge of drug programs. Drug and alcohol treatment funding slashed across England by 16% in four years. https://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/home-news/spending-on-drug-and-alcohol-treatment-slashed-by-105m-in-four-years-a7912531.html

Jim, you are obviously aware of the previous history of the accused - clearly know more than anyone reading a paper - With that special insight just set out why exactly he would have been inside at the time. The maximum is 15 years - he got 9 cos he admitted it - he gets credit for that. If the Judge had given him 15 you would have been wanting consecutive terms - and then whined when the sentence was reduced (at your expense) by the Court of Appeal. As for deceit - we all know he will serve half - maybe he should have got an extended sentence - or his licence extended - you up on the law about those forms of sentence? When you are let us know. There are no winners in this type of case only losers. I wouldn't wish the experience of being involved in cases like this on anyone.
