Harrystottle
The term gammon face is obviously intended as an insult, so it's only to be expected that it will be taken as one. And |I don't vote Tory.
Cyclone
To be clear the insult is simply "gammon", not "gammon face".
I1L2T3
It's certainly exposing prejudices. Is it? Not really. It’s calling out angry middle aged people for making undignified fools of themselves on national TV. To try and portray it as prejudice or racism is ridiculous. The equalities commission would laugh you out the place if you complained. ---------- Post added 19-05-2018 at 13:36 ---------- The term gammon face is obviously intended as an insult, so it's only to be expected that it will be taken as one. I’d say it was descriptive, not an insult It’s not even intended as a provocation It’s exactly how these people look when they get themselves into a tizzy
ENG601PM
Is it? Yep, that's how it looks from outside the echo chamber.
I1L2T3
Yep, that's how it looks from outside the echo chamber. That’s because you want to build a very big straw man, and then get yourself all worked up. Stop seeing things that aren’t there. It’ll improve your life. the_bloke
I’d say it was descriptive, not an insult It’s not even intended as a provocation It’s exactly how these people look when they get themselves into a tizzy That's what white people used to say in the 70's when they called black people things like 'chocolate'. All this thread is doing is reinforcing the theory that you cannot call people names based upon the colour of their skin unless they are white people that are the target. Either it's wrong across the board, or there are some massive hypocrites out there desperately trying to excuse their skin colour based insults. Either it's wrong across the board, or there are some massive hypocrites out there desperately trying to excuse their skin colour based insults. It is not racist however which way you want to cut it. You want it to be racist. You want white middle aged people to be portrayed as the true victims of racism. The idea that white people are being discriminated against in their own country is a cornerstone of right wing Brexiter ideology. But you need to look elsewhere for your evidence of that because quite simply the gammon phrase is not it. It just isn’t. Most of the people using the gammon phrase are white themselves. And that is all you need to know to put the “racist” claims firmly away. I’m not a fan of the “gammon” insult to be honest. I prefer the phrase “ buffoon” myself.
