Jeffrey Shaw
Yup. Wikipaedia tells me this: Saint George, according to legend, was a Roman soldier of Greek origin and officer in the Guard of Roman emperor Diocletian, who was sentenced to death for refusing to recant his Christian faith. As a Christian martyr, he later became one of the most venerated saints in Christianity, and was especially venerated by the Crusaders. George's parents were Christians of Greek background, his father Gerontius was a Roman army official from Cappadocia, and his mother Polychronia was a Christian and a Greek native from Lydda in the Roman province of Syria Palaestina. Born: 280 AD · Lod, Israel Died: 303 AD · Nicomedia, Turkey Parents: Polychronia (Mother) · Gerondios (Father)

Jeffrey Shaw
Maybe the UK therefore needs to select or even invent a new Saint, one with no 'prior'?

Guest
The police at this end will stop 99% of known English trouble makers that could hold their own against the Russian Ultras from even traveling to Russia, so most of the fans that are there, who are not that way inclined, will be quite exposed and probably take a hammering, giving a false impression that the English can't slug it out with the supposedly big tough Russians. Jeffrey Shaw
Anyway, why a 'Saint' [= 'sanctus', i.e. holy]? After HM The Queen passes away, she'd be a good candidate.

But the whole nonsense structure of 'rights' is anathema in the UK. People should worry more about duties and enforcing them.
