The biggest killer of men under 45

Recommended Posts

I'm only shocked that people are surprised by this statistic

Too many men have fell through the gaps, many have no chance of getting meaningful employment that could help them to give them purpose in life

More and more men spend their teens on the computer (internet/xbox) and so will become very isolated and lonely as they get older

You look at the current generation of 20 something men, and to me they look lost and without direction.

I sadly believe that in 20 years time the suicide rate will rocket among many men over the age of 30

When you get to a certain age and your best years are behind you, and you have no prospects that things will improve, then its hardly suprising that male suicide is on the up

Why would this be something that affected men particularly and not just people?

Male suicide is going up, and if men feel they have no purpose in life then whats the point in carrying on

You must get to a certain age in life as a man and think "things aren't going to improve"

Perhaps this is the root cause in the increase in male suicide?

Many men who are in their 20s now will stand no chance of doing the things that current 50 something men took for granted

Hence this sad statistic is only going to increase in years to come

Male Suicide for ages between 45-49 has increased in recent years, but there has been a slight decrease in younger men committing suicide.

Through the 90s I found the drop in centre MIND quite helpful. Not anymore sadly. It is no longer a drop in centre.

Like most places it's access* via referral* now. That is no use to a bloke when he is so close to the edge.

The simplest reduction of an answer to that would simply be that woman are more likely to talk about their feelings than men are and thus less likely to reach a suicidal situation.

No. At least not according to something I came across.

Women "attempt" suicide more often than men, generally by poisoning, ie taking pills.

However, men actually kill themselves when they do it because they use actually deadly means; hanging, falling, shooting, drowning, etc. In other words it's not a "cry for help", it's actual intent to kill.
