paula4sheff
Even those that say its fine understand it has problems. One of which is very easy to resolve. Ban chuggers. Why do the council allow us to be harrased by the charity equivalent of the used car salesman? They operate in the centre of highstreet you have to walk to the edge or be rude and ignore them. Surely this is a quick fix. I believe they pay the council to be there...hence their continued presence.
woodmally
I believe they pay the council to be there...hence their continued presence. So why don't the council refuse the money. I suspect they could increase footfall just by that one action.
paula4sheff
Exactly so and thank you. Those on here who are banging on about how terrible Sheffield is clearly have never lived anywhere else. Someone needs to consider changing their user name:) Why is the acknowledgement that there are worse places to live any comfort? Surely everyone wants to see the city as good as it can be - not say "ah it could be worse". Isn't that just a defeatist attitude to life? Personally I'd like to see an effort made in the city to make the centre to be as good as it can be - not featuring in a list of one of the city's in the county with the most empty shops! That it's better than some other run down city centre really isn't good enough. ---------- Post added 01-07-2018 at 21:24 ---------- So why don't the council refuse the money. The Joker
Sheffield city centre is a heck of a mess The amount of begging really is a stress. The council don't seem to care As voters never give 'em much of a scare. Shops are closing down very very fast And most people hanging around have trousers at half mast. Drug dealing and spice using are rife Go to Leeds shopping, if you've got a life. Sheffield city centre is not so bad Which makes me think that you had only visited Castle Square Which would give anybody a scare The Moor is getting back on its feet And the new Light cinema sure looks sweet Primark moved to the Moor not long ago JD and GAP moved in too, didn't you know? I've not seen any drug users in town But I tend not to stay after the sun goes down Maybe, speaking as a local lass, You should visit shops with more class. I can't recommend visiting L**ds, unless You like staring at the homeless L**ds has more down-and-outs than us, and more riff-raff The London of the North? You're having a laugh. paula4sheff
Haha - I can imagine ! Welcome to Sheffield. Don't be put off by some on here with an axe to grind and far too much time on their hands. Sheffield is a fine place to live and I hope you will be very happy here. Why do people who say the city needs to improve, so it's not on theese sort of lists have 'an axe to grind'? And who with?! Daven
And no angry vicars at Parson Cross either. ---------- Post added 01-07-2018 at 22:07 ---------- And Dungworth is rather nice actually.
Guest makapaka
What do you take "migration lawyers said UK visas and immigration officials had told a recent business immigration conference that they faced a particular problem in “enticing staff to move to Sheffield, the city having been designated as the global processing centre" to mean then? That they're NOT having difficulty getting people to move to Sheffield? Some more info (from a less salubrious source!) https://www.thesun.co.uk/news/4955330/whats-wrong-with-sheffield-home-office-struggles-to-recruit-staff-to-cope-with-brexit-because-workers-dont-want-to-move-to-northern-city/ ---------- Post added 01-07-2018 at 21:10 ---------- Saying "it could be worse" really isn't a great argument! Of course there are worse centres.....but that doesn't mean Sheffield's isn't awful! An inability to resource a particular position is not an example of people not wanting to move to sheffield. paula4sheff
An inability to resource a particular position is not an example of people not wanting to move to sheffield. ....the opinion of the Home Office would differ. I'd suggest they probably know more about their own recruitment process than you or I, and that when they claim they can't get people to move to Sheffield for jobs, they aren't lying. The Joker
Not bad. Last sentence should have been 'laff' though, rather than 'laugh' I think..... only if you’re a bloody cockney from Dahn Saaf. I’m not a bloody cockney from Dahn Saaf. Are you a bloody cockney from Dahn Saaf?

Nope - but it still works in the Yorkshire accent. Looks better as well, for rhyming purposes....
