Charismatic people

Recommended Posts

Are people different compared to the years gone past?

Screaming Lord such is an example of a character from years ago, do we still have such people. Are we more likely to be boring these days?

These days its against the law to incite hatred and discriminate, call someone fat and you will be in deep trouble!

Lots of people with different views in this forum, but say some of the things at work that are said on here and you are likely to get the sack.

Society is striving to improve ones standards both morally and ethically. Would you rather us not give women the vote and discriminate against blacks for example or make abortion illegal?

Extreme examples I know, but regressing no matter how little could build momentum into something far worse.

There's no doubt the climate has changed. There doesn't seem to be much room for 'characters' these days. Political correctness seems to hold sway across the board, and IMO is stifling free speech. Heaven help anyone who gets on the wrong side of it. Intolerance is rife. People seem to want to take offence when no offence was intended.

People seem to have lost all sense of proportion along with their sense of humour. I find it very depressing..

That does seem to be the case, in the media. But when you meet someone in person, do people judge?

Writing things in the media is different from face to face communication. But is this PC stuff making people think differently?

But is this PC stuff making people think differently?

depends how you mean by differently,

if it makes people think about their words and makes them consider that something said or done in "fun" might actually be damaging or hurtful to the target then is that a bad thing?

those who rail against it tend to be from the branches of politics which thrive on victimising people because they are "other".

Screaming Lord Sutch is no longer around because he's dead not because of political correctness. He caught the eye of the media in the 60's and never really lost it. It became an election tradition, like to swingometer, to mention him at least once a week during election campaigns.

The rise of the professional politician and a more managed approach to candidate selection has driven the colourful characters out of politics not PC. It's probably a bad thing, but then it's doubtful that Thatcher would have stood a chance had she tried to stand as a candidate today. So maybe it's not that bad,
