Sheffield's New Lord Mayor - Magid Magid

Recommended Posts

He's a Mayor for the 21st century.

One who is known and actually mixing with the public not hidden away.

He's not stiff and stuffy like previous mayors whose names I can't remember.

Good luck to him I say - keep up the good work mate and don't let those stuck in the past sway your wonderfully outgoing and modern persona.

I stand by the above.

He's a breath of fresh air.

He has apparently sent a hand written letter to the Home Secretary about Orgreave. The letter begins "Ey up Saj". There's yet another photo of Magic squatting on a table wearing a T shirt with a slogan on it.

Which bit of that are you unhappy with and why?

The ‘letter’ is so utterly wrong, on so many levels, surely you must see this!

Maybe if you were a member of South Yorkshire's finest, worried about ending up in jail for anything from grievous bodily harm to attempting to pervert the course of justice, you would.

To most right thinking people, the mayor of Sheffield bringing up the matter of what happened at Orgreave with the Home Secretary is to be applauded.

The ‘letter’ is an infantile scrawl, knocked up and pasted all over social media with one obvious intention. It both trivialises a very serious issue and misrepresents this city and its people, by reinforcing every commonly held prejudice and stereotype.

Or is possibly a new and refreshing way of bringing attention to an unresolved issue which was buried by Mr Javid's predecessor?

Donald Trumps been trivialising very important things on social media for the past two years, the same people condemming our new mayor dont seem to have an issue with him doing it.

At least Donald doesn't use swear words as a part of his public speeches. Some of the Mayors' quotes are literally unpublishable here on SF :)
