Michael_N
Improved pay offer for Stagecoach Supertram employees 02 Jul 2018 Three-year deal offers 4.4% rise for drivers and 5.5% increase for conductors across the first two years, with an increase in line with inflation for the third year Package also offers a shorter working week and enhanced overtime rates Unite union to put offer to members in new ballot later this week Stagecoach Supertram confirmed this evening (Monday 2 July) that it has offered a new improved pay package which will be put to a ballot of employees later this week. The new three-year offer follows extensive negotiations with representatives of the Unite union. Taking into account the shorter working week, the effective increase in hourly rates over the first two years equates to 6.8% for conductors and 5.8% for drivers. Tim Bilby, Managing Director for Supertram, said: “We have worked very hard in today’s talks to put together an improved offer for our employees. We’ve sought to balance our ability to meet the aspirations of the union, with ensuring we have a sustainable business with secure jobs that continues to offer high quality, good value travel to our customers. “We are pleased that employees are being given an opportunity to vote on the new offer, and we would urge them to accept a deal which is significantly above pay settlements elsewhere in the economy. “At the same time, we must be clear that any strike action would not only be disruptive for Sheffield’s communities and economy, but would also add to our costs and reduce the money available to fund any pay deal.” All I can say is if it's that good of an offer and they refuse to accept it again, then there are much deeper problems at Supertram. Management tactics and bullying etc? Have heard it's not the best company to work for, and it says a lot when a few years ago you never saw any vacancies and now they're struggling to recruit staff they even need to have their 1st recruitment open day. Must be some very deep rooted problems going on behind the scenes...
woodmally
I dont know if its been answered here before but is the Supertram a necessity? I used to live in Hillsborough when the tram first came online and felt if it went down for whatever reason there was still a regular bus journey. Could we survive without the tram? It just seems like its an ok new mode of transport but if it disappeared tomorrow it would be of no great loss.

No of course it is not a necessity and of course we could survive without the tram as clearly buses could operate instead. At least with trams we have the alternative of the bus but without trams then there would not be an option when Stagecoach bus drivers go on strike However given the choice between bus or tram I wonder which the public would chose
verydull
I don't think we could now get by without it. When trams come along, buses etc are re routed and change to fit with trams. It would have to include reversing and re organising the whole network

More likely they don’t like being properly managed for sickness and abscences etc ... with a touch of greed thrown in.
