The Consequences of Brexit [part 5] Read 1st post before posting

I've always said that I'm not a big fan of a second referendum as I don't believe that it is necessary. People will still bitch and moan, whatever the result. It is pretty much accepted now that leaving the EU will harm the UK for years to come. A responsible government, either Labour or the Tories, should just sack off Brexit while we still have the current EU deal and get on with running the country. It isn't as though there isn't loads that needs doing.

Yes, half the country will be really upset but so what? Half the country are going to be upset whichever way the cookie crumbles so we might as well not wreck the economy as well as **** people off. If we continued with this train wreck the Brexiters will be upset anyway when they realise that immigration will not come down and may even go up so they will be saved the heartache.

We are not at war but we are pretty close to that kind of existential danger. We really need some grown up responsible politicians to take a brave step and for god's sake stop trying to please everyone which is no longer possible.

Sack off Brexit now and the leave supporters can just suck it up. It is time we stopped letting them hold the country to ransom!

Well, it looks like Boris has finally got of his arse and put a plan together - Canada plus. Tariff free, but it doesn't sort the Irish border problem out and it leaves key industries exposed.

The Tory faithful will like it, the eu will probably go for it, but is it sensible?

Any deal is more sensible than this.

Even Canada minus, if it went down to that.

According to today’s ONS figures, your manufacturing sector is in recession, by the way (2nd consecutive quarter of contraction).

Your views are dangerously irresponsible.

You are advocating that three Parliamentary votes (a vote to hold the 2016 referendum, another to invoke Article 50 and another for the European Union Withdrawal Bill) which passed through Parliament and have become law, be ignored.

This would set an extremely dangerous precedent for our democracy. To ignore legislation simply because one dislikes it is the trait of a tyrant.

Repealed, not ignored.

You seem to struggle with the idea that people and governments can change their minds! :o

Surely he's advocating that parliament simply take another vote and then change the law. That's the prerogative of parliament. No act of parliament can bind them to anything in the future, the nature of sovereignty and democracy is the ability to change our and their minds.

So what WOULD you accept as proof?

You were quite happy for the European Communities Act to be repealed - nothing to stop another Act being repealed.

Or don't you like how democracy works?

Can not see that on the BBC web site!

Oil prices have hit a four-year high and the pound fall against the dollar, you would think a manufacturing recession would make it a hat-trick.
