The Consequences of Brexit [part 5] Read 1st post before posting

Recommended Posts

A backlash is coming. The public didn't vote to Leave the EU in greater numbers than have ever voted for anything in our entire history only to have a weak and corrupt establishment elite time waste for two years in order to water down Brexit until it has none of its original meaning...

but what was it's original meaning?

and by and large most people wont care what happens, as long as it's over

welcome back, did comerade putin recall you from the salt mine?

The Brexit vote is about much, much more than our membership of the EU.

It's seen by the disenfranchised, the weak, the poor, as the people versus the establishment. The vote gave a voice to those who have long been neglected, ignored and shunned for not sharing the same opinions as the wealthy establishment elite.

For the result of the vote to be ignored, diluted or possibly rerun is a step too far for a significant number of people. There will be huge consequences for our democracy, and we will enter new and dangerous territory.

Where do you get his from?

I'll guarentee the only dangerous territory we will enter is if we leave in a hard disorganised brexit.

Think it's already started and can only get worse.

France, Germany and Italy now have large political parties that hate the EU.

Then there's Easter Europe who has gone anti-immigration.

The EU is critically flawed. Large sections of the populations just don't buy the benefits of the EU. It is doomed.

I will fully admit it's less than perfect but look at the mere spectre of leaving to our political system. The eu may reform but it won't implode.

Glad to see that David Davies stuck by his word and exercised his democratic right to change his mind...

Now if only the rest of the government would recognise the overwhelming desire of the country to change theirs...

Nothing noble in their intentions, Davis and Johnson have resigned to save themselves from going down with the sinking ship that is the Tory party.

Favourability of the EU in both France and Germany is going up. Italy had to quickly change their mind re: leaving the EU/Euro as reality dawned.

Even larger sections realise they're better in that out.

It is doomed.

Hi ENG, new account needed I see ;) How long until you spit the dummy out again?

Yes you absolutely did. You voted to leave AND let the govenment decide HOW TO LEAVE.

If that isn't your understanding, then that is your fault for not understanding how our govenment and democracy works.

I voted to Leave.

The Government of the day was always the instrument that was going to decide how to enact the result of the vote. Not the electorate.

Perhaps your flawed understanding of how representative democracy actually works is at fault? The people vote. The Executive either implements the result or it doesn't.

A political backlash.

Nah, the majority will give a sigh of relief and be glad it's over.

There's going to be huge political backlash regardless of what happens now.

The government has maneuvered themselves into a situation where they're damned if they do, damned if they don't.

It was made very clear to us, by the government of the day, that a vote to Leave the EU was a vote to Leave all of the EU institutions. The single market, the European Court of Justice, freedom of movement etc.

The Executive either implements the result or it doesn't.

Exactly - and it decides how to implement it - so you get whatever Brexit they decide and then you have to suck it up.

The electorate did not vote for a hard brexit or a soft brexit so whatever is delivered is what you voted for - so please stop whining about it not being what was voted for...
