Bins they are a'changin

Recommended Posts

The blue bins we have now are bigger than the boxes yes, but are an awful design for paper and card. They're just too narrow at the bottom to stack stuff efficiently, even newspapers have to go in end-ways, or folded up. If you were going to design a paper/cardboard recycling receptacle, it wouldn't look like our blue bin!

We never use ours for paper, preferring the box (even though we generate a lot more paper/cardboard waste than bottles and cans). At least with the boxes you can lay stuff flat in fairly big pieces.

I think we'll struggle to fit a month's worth in the blue bin. One Amazon delivery and that'll be it.

I've used the blue bin for paper and card right from the start, and yes, it's not the best design, but I've not found it an inconvenience. I like the size because I only put it out for emptying once every two months. If I could be given a brown bin the same size as the blue bin, I'd be happier, but alas, the brown bins only come in L, not M or S.

We're the same but for bottles and cans. We use the blue bin for those and only need to put it out once in a blue moon. We trialled using it for paper and card, but we soon went back to using the box for paper. Found that quite a bit of stuff tended to get weged in the bottom of the bin and didn't get emptied, leaving you with a half full bin to start off the next collection period.

The council expect you to take the old blue box to your local re-cycling centre if you don't want to keep it.

Mines going in the brown bin.

We need a bigger blue bin but have almost no use for a brown one - we already use our blue bin for paper and card, always have done. hardly anything to fill the box - do you think they'll notice if we paint the brown one blue, lol?

We need a big bin for polystyrene packaging dreadful stuff to get rid of there must be a way to break it into small bits for insulation use.

Theres only so much you can tear up for pot drainage.

What if you filled the brown and blue bins with card and put them out on the correct day. Surely they’d empty them both??
