choogling
Were you refused because you are white? The door man just said "sorry lads not tonight" so we went to the old number 12 Bernie's instead.
willman
Most people ignore there moral compass every day - check out places like checkatrade and then find the bloke on facebook. Some of the comments make your toes curl - and then they'll turn up and work for anyone. I've recently had two builders/plasterers recommended to me via facebook after seeing their personal facebook profiles i never even contacted them. Moral compasses work both ways. the_bloke
The law is pretty clear on race and sexual orientation. It's the grey areas that interest me more. Can a business discrimate on the basis of political leanings? Religion is tougher still - few would dream of denying the harmless c of e church down the road services but would you bake a "congratulations on your gay conversion ceremony" cake for someone? The company I work for does huge amounts of post production video work for the entertainment industry and we've turned down extremely well paid stuff because it was porn. I don't think anyone had a problem with that, including the people we told no.
tinfoilhat
The company I work for does huge amounts of post production video work for the entertainment industry and we've turned down extremely well paid stuff because it was porn. I don't think anyone had a problem with that, including the people we told no. I'm not pulling your company stance on porn down - it's no different to many stock photography Ts & Cs - but why is it ok for one company to turn down porn but not an extremely conservative Christian church (for example). You mention the porn people (for want of a better description!) didn't have a problem, why do other groups like religious organisations not only have problem but have the law on their side? Cyclone
Any business could turn down the porn industry. Being a producer of porn is not a protected characteristic (indeed other businesses aren't covered by equalities legislation anyway).
chakademus
A business should choose who it serves to as a private business. The state is wrong forcing religious people to sell to homosexuals.
Cyclone
People should be free from discrimination due to sexuality, the state is correct in forcing businesses to not discriminate.
RootsBooster
So you'd be fine with your favourite Indian/Chinese/Insert other foreign food restaurant, refusing to serve you because you're white? Me and a male mate were once refused service in the Indus ,the next weekend I went in with the girl friend and got served ,I just excepted it and got on with my life, no big deal. Were you refused because you are white? The door man just said "sorry lads not tonight" so we went to the old number 12 Bernie's instead. So your anecdote is redundant. Back to the question, would you be fine with your favourite Indian/Chinese/Insert other foreign food restaurant, refusing to serve you because you're white?
