What rubbish are you carrying in your van?

Recommended Posts

Be careful what you are carrying in your works van. There are some right jobsworths working for the councils these days, they must lay awake at night thinking of ways to screw money out of the public.

A white van man has been hit with a £300 fine after sandwich wrappers and crisp packets were found inside his work van.

He was punished with the on-the-spot penalty after a stash of waste he kept in a plastic commercial waste bag was found in the back of his vehicle.

He was breaking the law for carrying the rubbish without permission when they carried out spot checks in east London.

If he put the rubbish in an old carrier bag or bin liner he would have been fine..

The council are obviously going to be looking for unlicenced waste carriers and you'd have to ask why does he have a commercial waste bag if he doenst have a commercial waste licence....

I was thinking the same. And what does he do with the waste from his jobs, throw them in the customer's bins?

This article shows what waste is produced:

I think there's more to this story.

There may be more to the story but it says there were sandwich wrappers and crisp packets in the bag, it doesn't say what else was in or how full the bag was. Maybe just a good excuse to try and screw him out of £300, there isn't much common sense these days when it comes to councils and officialdom.

You arent suggesting that our media, best in the world, havent told the whole story? Say it aint so.

The article states why he was fined:

A Waltham Forest Council spokesman said: "The waste in this case was being transported in commercial refuse bag in the trader's vehicle.

"Regardless of what the items are, if waste is being stored in a commercial refuse bag in a trader's van it is necessary that they have a valid waste carriers' license."

The story comes from the driver, there is no one else saying that is why he got a fixed penalty notice, it wouldn't surprise me if he has been given a few hundred quid to make some of his own fake news.

The driver in question would not need a waste licence, as his main profession is that he is a roofer. Having said that, he was outside his own local authority area, and the council were accompanied by the police.

Most media outlets are just going with the story, true or not.

A bag is a bag , its for putting rubbish in, regardless what it says on the bag . If i was the van man , id just chuck his rubbish out of the van window now and let the council jobsworths clean it up.

You need a low tier waste carriers licence to carry your own waste, it’s free to get and helps to catch flytippers...

Good luck in trying to get everyone who loads their cars to go to the dump it sites to apply for get one of these. Yet more stupidity from interfering, nosy council jobsworths.
