Janus
We were thinking on having a few trips out on National express coaches. But it`s a bit off-putting that their only contact number is an 087 number when you are wanting to spend money with the company, and not just as a one-off, plus there might be a few of us. 13p per minute plus connection charges when most people have a mobile and they don`t mind phoning other mobiles or standard L Line numbers. We are thinking of just getting advance tickets and using the train now instead, on principal.
horribleblob
Couldn't you book online? https://www.nationalexpress.com/en/help/tickets
ll49
If you type into Google ‘say no to 0870’ it will take you to a website where you can type the number in and it will provide you with a number that doesn’t cost you to ring. We use it a lot and it’s really good.

spilldig
I always call in at the booking office in Sheffield Central bus station.
The Moon
I'm always reminded of that Divine Comedy song whenever I see a national express.
Daven
Sheffield to Milton Keynes some years ago and back. Perfectly adequate really. I booked online with no issues. Edited August 5, 2018 by Daven
Dales
I'm always reminded of that Divine Comedy song whenever I see a national express. Me too! I then think of the Father Ted programme because a song by The Divine Comedy was used as it's theme tune.
Resident
My last experience of national express was nothing short of ridiculous. Travelling from Sheffield to Skegness (I was living there temporarily) I needed to take an extra case and had spoken to the office who said it would be OK when I booked and again the day before travelling. Gets to the coach and driver kicks off as I've got the extra case. He moans that it takes up space for other passenger's cases and I should not have brought it. I argued that the office okd it and he puts it in the store. Best bit? There was ONE other passenger besides me for the entire 76 seat coach for the trip. spilldig
Just another thought on this and that is never to use trains on a weekend or a bank holiday because three times we fell foul of engineering works. The last time we were going to an event at Kempton Park on a Sunday. We got the 0915 train from Waterloo after purchasing the tickets at Waterloo with nothing being said about a bus replacement service untill we were on the train. We all got off the train after a few miles and stood waiting in line, for about five hours before we got a bus. The bus driver dropped us off and said the bus replacement was on untill 7pm when the trains started running again. When we got there the event was over, everythig was closed. We could get nothing to eat except bags of crisps. We waited from 5pm untill 7pm for a bus which never came and then got the first train back. Never again. That was the last time we ever used a train.
