petemcewan
For TimmyR, People need new ideas based on reason, not superstition; on freedom, not personal autonomy; on creativity, not adaptation; on coherence, not chaos; and on a vision of a free society, based on popular assemblies and confederalism, not on rulers and a state. If we do not organize a real movement, a structured movement, that tries to guide people toward a rational society based on reason and freedom, we face eventual disaster. We cannot withdraw into our “autonomous” egos or retreat to a primitive, indeed unknown past. We must change this insane world, or else society will dissolve into an irrational barbarism, as it is already beginning to do these days. The above-by Bookchin-sounds eminently reasonable, but impossible to achieve. Maybe we are a flawed species headed for a mass extinction. Top Cats Hat
Maybe we are a flawed species headed for a mass extinction. I wouldn't say that it was inevitable but as a species we need to 'catch ourselves on' as my gran would say, pretty soon before we get to the point of no return. Anna B
Anybody see 'Saving Planet Earth. Fixing a hole' (Channel 4, Sat 18th August)? The story of the first man-made threat to the planet's environment - the hole in the Ozone layer. Thanks to great science and great leadership, (Mainly Ronald Regan and Margaret Thatcher,) the production and use of CFC gas was halted world wide almost overnight, it wasn't easy, but subsequently, the hole in the Ozone layer repaired. Very heartening. Just shows what can be done when we work together and are all on the same page.
