Finally addressing the dangerous cycling problem

Recommended Posts

Robin-H,

However, it should be noted that the data does not apportion blame for the accidents in question.

Maybe pedestrian awareness of cyclist schemes, run by the local authority, should be introduced. You know, teach the pedestrian that whilst they are gadding about in the vehicular environment to be aware of cyclists. The number of pedestrians -whilst on their mobile-stepping out in front of me while I'm on my bike is alarming.

It is said in H/S circles that it takes two to cause an accident.

If cyclists wore one of these then it would be possible to record who is to blame.

Albert Smith.

I sympathise with you . When I cycled in London I was knocked off my bike numerous time by Black Cabs, negotiating Hyde Park Corner. I was knocked off my bike a number of times, by cars executing a left-hand turn at the junction of Essex Road and Balls Pond Road. I think I have been extremely lucky. The scariest occasion was on Essex Road. I was knocked off my bike and fell in front of a double-decker bus. I lay in the road and watched it coming towards me before it stopped. I thought I was a goner.

So the number of fatalities has increased to 3. What is a change in the law going to do to bring that statistically insignificant figure down?

How many of these fatalities and injuries were the fault of the cyclist and how many caused by pedestrians wandering into the road whilst looking at their phone.

I'm calling for new charge, death by dangerous telephony.

So its only 3 people, thats OK then. As a matter of interest, whats the number of deaths you reckon there should be before something is done, even if it seems to you, pointless and a waste of time? We talking 100, 1000, 10000? Would it be OK if one of your loved ones was number 4 or 5?

Pedestrians have preference over cyclists. Highway code. It's up to you to be aware of them.
