St Petre
I see the old Youth Employment Bureau building at West Street/Carver Lane is still there. Anyone have 'experiences' there -1960's or so. Is the place still used as such ?
Runningman
I remember the employment officer opening a filing cabinet which must have contained a hundred cards all with vacancies on. Now how about this one he said and that particular job eventually became mine, from a school lad to a working man. Jobs a plenty in 1963, more than enough to choose from. In those days(1961 for me)you left work on Friday and started work on Monday. Your parents made sure of it. lol
stevenorfolk
I visited that "Hut" a few times in the 60s, one job I got from there was apprentice steel erector, within a couple of weeks of starting I was balancing on girders 100 ft up!! no safety line or helmet in those days. Helmets are not much good up there, it's the lads underneath you that need them ,especially if you were new to the work LOL
