The appropriate comparison is not two days know versus the whole of WWII.  I expect that yesterday the UK suffered more damage than a day in the early part of WWII, before things really escalated.

The comparisons with World War II are rather silly in my opinion. They also make the people using them look silly..

I will bow you your obviously superior knowledge of overreacting.

Now, who was it that was accusing me of editing quotes so they say something they never did ?

I plead innocent to that, but Sibon is, without any doubt, guilty as charged.

So, yesterday you reckon the UK suffered more damage than it did in WWII before WWII really got started.

Well that's possible, but unlikely because very early on Britain got itself on a  "total war" footing, which was exactly what they should have been doing. It was far earlier than Germany which only did so after Stalingrad, i.e. early 1943. So the economic damage resulting from WWII was being done from the start. An interesting local example was the the LNER were planning to electrify the Woodhead line and in fact had already started doing so, but that got cancelled because of the war.

Now were else have we had untold economic damage, much of which will not show up for years.....

I disagree entirely, they throw into sharp focus what a load of wet blankets the population has turned into.

The climate change emergency zealots will have you.....

I am surprised they did not lay into me when I pointed out that having winters two degrees warmer would work very well.

Whilst it is undeniable that a two degree rise in temp would adversely affect many millions, many millions would also benefit, in fact if the whole world was two degrees warmer massive areas (e.g. of Siberia) would then become habitable.

Anyone would think human beings are not the most adaptable creatures to ever live on the planet.

Just to clarify, I am in favour of reasonable measures to combat possible man made global warming, in fact we had a Solar system fitted on our house for which we received absolutely zero financial help and even had to pay the VAT. But I am not in favour of unattainable nett zero targets which will cost an absolute fortune and will do huge harm to the economy and society. They are almost pointless anyway whilst China and India build and operate hundreds of coal power stations

You'll find people thriving above the Arctic Circle, in the Sahara, and in the hottest Equatorial Forests.

The eccos are determined to regulate the Earth's temperature 50 years from now!

Good luck with that!

Discaimer:

It is very hot and humid where I live in the Dominican Republic. All the time.

Nobody is dying from the heat!  :)

Your reply above was in response to weather reports provided by trastrick.

Climate is not the same thing at all.

Your lack of geographical, geological and climatological understanding is staggering. World management by map.

Consider that paradise Siberia and its sterile, acidic ancient shield rocks, underlying permafrost, lack of soil and swings in temperature of 80 degrees(what difference would 2 degrees make) between summer and winter, lack of water, winter darkness etc.

Next you will suggest that the population of the Maldives or Mablethorpe should be sent there and live in Camps where they can thrive on digging things up.

My basic point was that if the climate is warming up some will lose out but some will benefit, and that is undeniable.

Climate Emergency zealots will go Ape over that, but it's true.

I would have thought that, on balance, Sheffield may even benefit because we'd get slightly warmer winters.

You missed the point, I was pointing out that you were comparing the impact of events over a day or two now with the total impacts of a multi year conflict to make your comparisons. That's nonsensical on many levels.
