Parties urged not to fight over climate change action

A government adviser and former Shell economist [Steven Fries] has warned politicians against making climate change action into a "wedge issue".

"The UK has done a  very good job in keeping climate change and decarbonisation to be[ing] a cross party issue. It's very important that all political parties in the UK and elsewhere resist going down the path of turning this into a wedge issue or a divisive issue for society".

Does this idiot know the meaning of the word democracy, because make no mistake he is openly suggesting the political parties should collude and  not give the population of this country, or any other country, any say in a major issue which will significantly affect how they live their lives.

Utterly outrageous.

Bearing in mind the kind of undemocratic tactics openly expressed above this really is no surprise :

The Times 6 Nov 23 (p21)

Sarah Davidson , chief executive of Carnegie UK, said the low levels of "democratic wellbeing" brought the overall scores [for happiness] down considerably, even for the [happier] older generations.

She said : "The index shows the perilous state of UK democracy, with only a fraction of the population feeling that they can influence decisions that affect them. This lack of trust has a corrosive effect on our society as without a strong relationship between the state and the citizen it becomes difficult to develop public policy which meets people's needs"

So we have the world & his wife all making their way out to Dubai for COP28, in order to save the planet.

King Charles has addressed the great & the good to remind them, "The Earth does not belong to us, we belong to the Earth."   (Apart of course, Cornwall, the Scottish Isles, Lancaster & a fair chunk of Berkshire & London that belongs to Charlie & his relatives).

Now, if the great & the good are doing their best to save the planet, how come Sunak, Cameron & Charles III, who are attending the event, have all decided to travel separately & have all flown out (& presumably fly back again), on private jets?   What wrong with the 3 of them all going out on the King's RAF flight?

Hypocrites!  And that's just 3 of our lot.

From the 'You couldn't make it up' file.

The UK's Climate Minister, Graham Stuart, who was attending COP28, has to fly all the way back to the UK to vote on the Rwanda legislation.  He is then expected to fly back out of the to Dubai to conclude business there. Of course at some point in the next few days, he'll be flying back to the UK again.

Absolutely ridiculous.  Not only hypocritical in terms of making unnecessary flights but it also highlights the antiquated procedures & processes of the UK Parliament in not embracing modern technology & allowing remote voting.

You have my full agreement.    We know that they are all just going through the motions to stave off criticism but they're not even bright enough to do that properly.

The problem is that they have a lot of dupes on the left that take then seriously!

When hairbrained Hollywood mimes and jesters like di Caprio, and Di Nero preach about the impending catastrophic doom of the planet people actually take them seriously!
